F1 » Boullier: I put my neck on the line in retaining Petrov

Eric Boullier has admitted it was his choice to keep Australian GP star Vitaly Petrov at Lotus Renault GP in F1 2011 - and that he would have had nowhere to hide had the Russian not performed.

Petrov is in a slightly tricky position where finishing on the podium will lead people to assume and suggest that Robert Kubica might have won.

I can remember a driver (Johnny Herbert?) saying years ago something to the effect that in some ways, the worst thing you can do is start qualifying and finishing regularly in the top six, if the team is not sure you are a top-liner, because then they start to think that the car might win with someone else driving!
