USGP organisers have confirmed that they are pursuing a change of date for the 2013 event to avoid clashing with a college football game in Austin on the same weekend.

UT football is not even a pimple on the butt of the FIA compared to the revenues stemming from 500 million viewers worldwide. It was not realistic to think that they would re-do their schedule due to college football or NASCAR conflicts. There are plenty of hotel rooms in Austin, but they will block most of those rooms and create a false 'shortage' to drive prices up, and release the blocks over time. This is exactly what happened last year. The greed of the local hotels is not the FIA's problem. A one-day general admission ticket to the race is only $50. The audiences will come. If not from the US (although attendance was great last year), from around the world. And, yes, the typical F1 fan from Europe or the Middle East will not flinch at the inflated hotel costs. Thus, the Hotel greed mostly affects locals.
