Marc Gene will continue as one of Ferrari's test and development drivers in 2013, extending an arrangement that first began in 2005.

The skill set of a test driver isn't the same as that of a race driver so the idea that Gene can't make a difference or shouldn't be kept on simply because he can't get in the actual car, or because he isn't as fast in the actual car as Alonso or Massa, is a bit misguided. Besides, it's not as if he only test drives for Ferrari anyway, so keeping him on might be to do with any one of his roles aside from test driving.
