It would seem that this is the perfect opportunity for the FIA to shoot itself in the foot once again. Acting as judge, jury and executioner yet again. How will they tread the fine line between giving enough punishment to Mercedes and Pirelli to satisfy Red Bull and Ferrari and ending up with the loss of a top team, a tyre supplier, and a third of the engines for next year? OK, so Mercedes may stay but Pirelli still has no contract for next year and have been taking a lot of flak, for doing exactly what the FIA wanted.
What's to stop them (Pirelli) giving the FIA the 'bird' and just walking away. After the way the FIA has treated the current and previous tyre suppliers the contract has become a bit of a poisoned chalice.
