Yip, the tyre problem really did overshadow their pace. Such a shame too, its only really been the last couple of outings that Mercedes have been able to run at the front all through the race, passing Ferrari and Lotus in the process, so to have a tyre blow is a real misfortune.

Of course, they benefitted nothing from the extra 1000km's of testing nobody else was invited to. Coincidence, much. They just found speed out of thin air.
