F1 » Experiencing Austin

It's not every day that you get the chance to drive a McLaren around one of the world's finest F1 tracks but, thanks to Mobil1, one lucky scribe got that very opportunity...

Craig, did you have to do any cool down laps in the 12C's? I did a track day in 100 F heat and the 12c's could only go 4 laps then needed a cool down at 45mph before doing 3 more laps then into pits to cool down. It was because the turbo's created incredible heat. Before any says well it's a super car, non turbo Ferraris (458, 430 & Scuderia's) pounded around the track with more consecutive and overall laps not needing anywhere near the same type of break to cool down. I was really surprised by that considering how great a company McLaren is. The 12c is a great car and seriously fast, but you feel kind of removed from the car compared to others that you feel a part of.

Lucky guy.... Getting to drive a McLaren around an F1 track for free is an opportunity not to pass up.
