(pt 2) Now I am NOT your average "man in the street" - I've followed motorsport for many many years, and participated for some, albeit very low down - I worry that the people watching who don't have the enthusiast's interest, and background knowledge will judge on what they see - just because they are not "petrolheads" doesn't mean they're stupid - and come to the conclusion that there appears to be a desire from those who govern to ensure that a certain team prospers (even to the extent of ignoring a car in a plainly dangerous condition), and that another team is dis-advantaged at every opportunity. Those "men in the streets" are the sponsors main target - upset them at your peril.
