Davidson joins BBC line-up

The BBC has revealed that Anthony Davidson will form part of its commentary team for the 2009 Formula One season.

Davidson, who found himself without a drive on the F1 grid when Super Aguri was forced to quit the sport last season, will become part of the presenting team on Radio 5 Live, providing expert analysis from the commentary booth alongside regular commentator David Croft and pitlane reporter Holly Samos.

The Briton took on a similar role on two occasions last season when he performed commentary duties at both the British and European Grands Prix.

"Over the last few years as a Formula One driver I've enjoyed being a guest commentator with Radio 5 Live, and I'm looking forward to joining the team for the full season this year as a regular in the commentary box,” he said. "Commentating gives me the chance to explain what it feels like to drive an F1 car to the limit, and to share the inside view on all of the demands that a driver faces over the weekend."

Davidson had been linked to a potential sportscar programme with Peugeot this season, with reports in the French press prediciting that he would compete in a 908 HDi at Le Mans.

However, the team then pulled a surprise by naming David Brabham as part of its nine driver line-up, with Sebastien Bourdais also returning.

A terrible waste of an undervalued and under rated driver - another classic case of what might have been with another talented driver not getting a drive due to not being flavour of the month or able to raise sponsorship. Another real shame, a la Perry McCarthy.
