The FIA's announcement of an optional ?40 million budget cap for Formula 1 from 2010 onwards may have provoked the ire of current teams and manufacturers, with many threatening a pull-out from the sport should it not be altered - but it has also prompted a flurry of interest from potential newcomers eager to take advantage of the top flight's new 'low-cost' era.

Though some bids appear to be somewhat more genuine or credible than others, it is clear that there will be some fierce competition for the three available extra slots on the 2010 starting grid - or perhaps more if any of the current competitors do indeed go ahead with their menace of withdrawal.

That being the case, many of the hopefuls are likely to be disappointed when the governing body publishes its definitive entry list for next season on 12 June - but who do you think is most capable and most deserving of a place in the F1 paddock?
