Making the most of the KERS system

Formula One brought in new technology for the 2009 season, with the introduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System – better known as KERS.

While not universally used by all teams on the grid, the system has shown how energy saving systems can be utilised to improve performance, with the possibility that KERS could also be used on road car technology in the future.

That could improve the performance and fuel efficiency of road cars and is another indication of the way in which technology from the track could be used to benefit the general public.

Mercedes are amongst the manufacturers to use KERS in F1, with the system being explained in this video.
