Red Bull names new reserve

Red Bull has announced that it will make a change to its nominated reserve driver for the remainder of the F1 season.

From the German Grand Prix onwards, Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari will act as reserve driver for both the Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso teams and will take on the role filled to this point by fellow Red Bull Young Driver Brendon Hartley.

With in-season testing banned this season, Red Bull has elected to use the role of reserve driver as part of its Young Driver training programme – with the young driver having the chance to work closely with the F1 team over the course of a race weekend.

Following his time in the role, Hartley will now focus on his racing programme in the F3 Euroseries while Alguersuari – who became the youngest ever title winner in the history of British F3 last year – will carry out his F1 role alongside his commitments in the World Series by Renault.

Surely just trying to put pressure on the Toro Rosso boys.
But the best preparation is still getting track time in the car!
