Button: Nurburgring should suit us

Jenson Button has predicted that there will be an 'intense fight' for the victory at the German Grand Prix next weekend.

Button, who has enjoyed a fantastic season to date, heads to the event, which marks the midway point in the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship, with a 23 point advantage in the drivers' championship.

The Englishman though struggled to match the Red Bull's of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber last time out at Silverstone and he will be determined now to bounce back.

Indeed with Vettel having taken a dominant victory at the British GP, Button will want to return the favour and do the same at the Nurburgring, when the roles will be reversed and it will be Seb's turn to compete in front of his home fans.

Speaking in the countdown to next weekend's F1 grand prix, Button noted that the 5.148 kilometre track should suit his Mercedes-powered Brawn GP 001.

"The Nürburgring is a tricky circuit but there are two key characteristics which should be good for our car,” he explained. “It is a relatively slow circuit with a lot of medium-speed corners which are one of the strengths of the BGP 001.

“The Nürburgring is also one of the heaviest braking circuits on the calendar so you need a car which will be good through the four heavy braking zones.”

Since Silverstone, Button's 'team' has been busy - and team boss, Ross Brawn has promised that there will be 'additional improvements' to the car to help them challenge and hopefully notch up another victory.

“With the extra week's break, everyone at the factory and at Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines has been working extremely hard in preparation for the German Grand Prix to get the best package for the race,” Button added.

“We're looking forward to showing what the car can do at the Nürburgring, especially after a disappointing weekend by our standards at the British Grand Prix.

“My last stint at Silverstone showed though that the pace of the car is really competitive so we're confident that we can turn it around at this race.

“I'm sure we will see a really intense fight with our closest competitors and hopefully a great race for the fans."
