Felipe Massa is unlikely to require any further surgical intervention as he continues to recover from the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying accident that left him with damage to his skull and questions over both his eyesight and F1 future.
The
Ferrari driver underwent another raft of medical tests after arriving home in Sao Paulo on Tuesday, with personal doctor Dino Altmann revealing the good news that Massa would need no further surgery.
"We did new blood exams, repeated brain tomography, brain resonance, he's undergone a ophthalmic exam, and the conclusion is that Felipe has no need of a new surgery right now," Altmann told reporters outside the city's Albert Einstein hospital, "The only recommendation is for him to rest at home."
Massa left the hospital and headed for home after the tests. The 28-year old is expected to sit out the rest of the current F1 season in an effort to be fit enough to return in 2010
“Felipe has had a remarkable recovery," Altmann continued, "The outcome [of the tests] is very encouraging, and the best thing for him now is to go back home, where he can calmly convalesce and rehabilitate.”
