BMW Sauber F1 team boss Mario Theissen has confirmed that the planned developments for Valencia and Singapore will still be introduced, even though BMW recently announced that it will pull out of F1 at the end of this year.

The BMW Sauber F1 team hasn't enjoyed a very fruitful season in '09 and to date the squad has only managed three points' finishes. However, despite the struggles with the F1.09, Theissen is determined to see BMW exit with a bang and not a whimper.

Speaking ahead of next weekend's European Grand Prix at Valencia, he added that a good showing in the final third of the season could only be of benefit as buyers are sought to take over the Swiss-based operation.

"Clearly we're all disappointed about the decision to withdraw from F1," Theissen said, going on to confess to 'mixed feelings' as the grand prix circus prepares to resume from its mid-summer hiatus. "The team had established itself at the top in just three years, and we always reached our targets or even went better. In 2009 things didn't go as we expected for the first time, and we would have loved to have shown that the poor results we've had this season were just a blip.

"Now, though, our work is focusing on the next few months. While efforts are continuing behind the scenes to find a solution for the team, everybody is aware that putting in good performances at the circuits is the best reference and best way to advertise their abilities. For the team it's now about putting in good work as a recommendation for a future in Formula 1.

"We want to get back into the fast lane, and so the development packages for Valencia and Singapore will be put into practice as planned. On the development side we have everything set for a return to successful ways. The board's basic decision to pull out of Formula 1 is therefore not based on the team's present performance but with a view to the future alignment of the company, and from this point of view I can understand the decision."

Meanwhile, Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica are both looking forward to the eleventh round in the 2009 FIA F1 World Championship.

Indeed while Valencia street circuit only made its debut on the F1 calendar in 2008, it is already highly regarded by both of the BMW Sauber F1 team pilots and last year Kubica finished on the podium - something that would be a dream result come the end of next Sunday's grand prix.

"I really enjoy the Valencia circuit a lot," Kubica noted. "I like the character of stop-and-go tracks. In Valencia you have a lot of long straights followed by narrow corners and long straights again. That means a lot of heavy braking.

"It was very hot there last year as the track is between concrete walls and there is not a lot of air. These conditions are very tough for the car's cooling. Last year I performed quite well too and finished on the podium."

Heidfeld for his part can't wait to see if the new modifications help the squad challenge for positions further up the order: "Valencia is a street circuit, but it doesn't drive like one," he continued. "In fact it is just like one of the modern race tracks.

"You're not right up against the buildings, there isn't the tightness you usually get at street circuits, but there are run-off areas.

"What I am really excited about though is finding out what effect the latest modifications will have on our car."
