Daniel Ricciardo's dream of becoming an F1 driver moved a step closer when he clinched the British F3 Championship at the recent Algarve round with two races to spare.
The 20-year-old's six race wins so far this year is already more than 2008 title winner Jaime Alguersuari, who is now racing in F1 with Scuderia Toro Rosso.
"If I can now follow in Jaime Alguersuari's footsteps that would be great, AAP
reports Ricciardo as saying.
"I'm not saying I'll be in F1 next year, but I'd like to be there in the near future.
"That's my dream."
Like Alguersuari, Ricciardo is part of the Red Bull driver development programme and hopes to test for the company's main F1 team, with which fellow Australian Mark Webber has enjoyed 2009 grand prix glory, before Christmas.
