Championship rivals Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello are amongst five drivers to have been given grid penalties following qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.

The Brawn GP pair, as well as Force India's Adrian Sutil, Renault's Fernando Alonso and Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Buemi were handed five place penalties by stewards after the session.

The penalties for Button, Barrichello, Sutil and Alonso came for failing to slow sufficiently for the yellow flags brought out in the second phase of qualifying following the accident for Buemi, who has also been given a reprimand as well as a five place penalty of his own for impeding other drivers as he brought his damaged car back to the pits.

Sutil had qualified in fourth place with Barrichello fifth, Button seventh, Buemi tenth and Alonso twelfth.
