Vatanen drops legal threat

Ari Vatanen drops his threat of legal action over the FIA presidential elections ahead of the key vote on Friday
Ari Vatanen has dropped the legal action he had lodged to ensure the FIA presidential election due to take place later this week is held in a fair manner.

The former WRC ace had lodged an application with a court in Paris last week calling for transparency in the election, which will see him go head-to-head with former Ferrari team boss Jean Todt in the race to succeed Max Mosley as the head of motorsports governing body.

However, following a meeting – alongside Todt – with current president Mosley on Tuesday, Vatanen has dropped his proposed action after both candidates agreed that the process will be fair.

“Following today's meeting to agree procedures for the upcoming FIA elections, Ari Vatanen has withdrawn his court application,” an FIA statement read. “At the meeting, chaired by FIA President Max Mosley, both candidates endorsed the fairness of the FIA's proposed voting procedure. The following elements of the procedure were confirmed:

“The presidential elections will be supervised by a Huissier de Justice throughout the entire procedure.

“There will be a private voting area for marking ballot papers available for those voters who would like to use it.

“Each candidate, along with their speakers in support, will be given an opportunity to present their case to the General Assembly for a maximum of 15 minutes. Mr Todt and his team will take the floor first.”

johndier. your own prime minister actually said that the treaty was unchanged but that guarantees and clarifications had been obtained. the vote was in favour this time, due to the dire economic situation and the fact that the terms were fully understood this time. didnt your prime minister admit that he hadnt even read the treaty , the first time?
but my point is, that fia could actually call for a new vote, if clarifications from todt or ari were required!
