Adrian Sutil looks set to remain at the pinnacle of the sport next season, following news that his current team, Force India F1, has taken its option up on the German for 2010.
According to reports by German news agency, DPA
, though, Sutil has yet to agree to remain for a third year - what will actually be his fifth with the squad, having began his F1 career there as a test driver in 2006, albeit under one of its previous guises, namely Midland F1.
Indeed F1 insiders suggest that he is negotiations with the likes of Toyota, Renault and McLaren-Mercedes.
Sutil told DPA
that he should be in a position to announce something concrete within 'maybe two weeks'.
Meanwhile Sutil completed a rather mixed '09, marred by a number of big crashes, by finishing 17th at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday, the 17th and final round in 2009 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
"We had some problems at the start of the race with the tyres and had to stop earlier than expected to change to a new set," Sutil reflected.
"The two stop strategy was the right one and the race went OK although we obviously didn't get any points, which was the aim.
"All the same though it has been a very good season, naturally with a lot of ups and downs, but we've gone massively forward from the beginning of the season to the end. I think we can be very proud of this progress."
Sutil ends 2009 having finished in the points just once - when he was fourth at the Italian Grand Prix back in September, one of only three top-ten results, the others a ninth place in Australia and a tenth in Valencia.
