Toro Rosso has confirmed that Sebastien Buemi has re-signed for the 2010 F1 season following his strong finish to 2009.

The Swiss driver made his debut this season and scored points in two of his first three races - with seventh place in Australia being followed by eighth place in China.

Buemi then failed to score again until the penultimate race of the year in Brazil when he matched his Australian result and then scored another point in the season finale to cap an impressive end to the campaign - which left him 16th in the drivers standings.

Having seen off the challenge of Sebastien Bourdais, who departed Toro Rosso mid-way through the season, Buemi was widely expected to return in 2010 and was quoted on Swiss television as stating that he had had contact with a number of teams before electing to stick with Toro Rosso.

The team itself has now confirmed the deal, although team-mate Jaime Alguersuari has yet to be tied to a deal for 2010.

"We have re-signed Buemi for next season," a spokesman told BBC Sport. "We have not yet signed Jaime."

Teenager Alguersuari, who joined the team in Hungary and took a best finish of 14th in Brazil, is also widely expected to get a second season with the team in 2010 despite the fact he is yet to be tied to a deal.
