Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has said he feels Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso are the 'best driver couple' in F1 after the pair appeared together at the annual Ferrari World Final event in Valencia.
The end of season event saw Alonso appear as a Ferrari driver for the first time after being granted permission by current employers Renault to attend, with the Spaniard appearing alongside new team-mate Felipe Massa as well as Ferrari test drivers Giancarlo Fisichella, Marc Gene and Luca Badoer.
As well as Alonso's first public appearance, the event also saw Massa return to the cockpit of the Ferrari F60 for the first time since his accident in Hungary as the Brazilian turned 20 laps at the wheel of the car.
Speaking at the end of the day, di Montezemolo admitted he was pleased at how the event had gone and said he was confident that his team would be back on form in 2010 with its ideal driver line-up.
"I am very satisfied by this day,” he said. “We were warmheartedly received by the fans and there were numerous clients, who didn't want to miss this event, coming here from all over the world. Things like this make us proud to be part of the Ferrari family, a group of incredible people, who build dream cars and who never give up.
“For me Felipe and Fernando are the best drivers couple in Formula 1. I am convinced that they both will be very motivated and will want to win. I am not worried about having two Latin drivers, which may be for the first time in our history. They both know very well that first of all they are racing for Ferrari and not for themselves. I enjoy reminding you that here we have a real team spirit; not just in words but in reality: an example is the relationship we have with a person like Michael Schumacher, who this year didn't hesitate to be available to help the team in a difficult moment.”
