Campos Meta cockpit passes FIA F1 homologation tests

F1 2010 debutant Campos Meta confirms that it is arguably the most advanced of next season's grand prix newcomers, as the cockpit of its Dallara-built chassis passes the latest FIA homologation tests
The cockpit of the Dallara-built chassis of F1 2010 newcomer Campos Meta has passed the latest FIA homologation tests, it has been announced, after a team of inspectors from the governing body visited Parma in Italy where the car is being built ahead of its competitive debut in the top flight next year.

The homologation tests are compulsory for all F1World Championship participants, and the news suggests that of the four confirmed new entrants in 2010 – Campos, USF1, Manor Grand Prix and Lotus F1 – the Spanish outfit is arguably the most advanced in terms of both its design and development.

“The homologation of the cockpit is a critical point that defines the status and quality of a Formula 1 car,” explained technical director Toni Cuquerella. “The fact of having our cockpit completely homologised puts us in a privileged position and allows us to keep on developing the car.

“Dallara has done a great job in order to have everything on time and pass all the tests at the first attempt. We still have to pass the homologation of the rear structure, which follows the same process and has already passed our previous internal tests.”

“It's a great satisfaction to pass these FIA homologation tests,” echoed team principal Adrián Campos, who competed at the highest level himself for Minardi in the late 1980s. “It shows the technical strength of the partners and suppliers we have gathered for our entry into Formula 1.

“I want to thank Dallara for the compromise shown in the task of fulfilling the original schedule. We still have a long journey in front of us, but at this stage we are confident that we will be able to cover all the steps needed to make it with guarantees to the inaugural weekend of the season in Bahrain.”

Its so strange looking back on this at the end of 2010 and seeing that at one point, this team was actually the most prepared newcomer. Wierd.
