Having reclaimed the rights to show F1 in the UK this season, the BBC has secured a prestigious award from the Royal Television Society for its coverage of the season opener in Australia.

The BBC a nomination in the Graphic Design - Programme Content Sequences category for the short film it used to introduce the first round of the 2009 campaign in Melbourne.

The short film featured a black and white introduction in the style of the famous Guinness adverts, giving an overview of the minute details involved in the sport before launching into the BBC new opening credits - complete with the iconic F1 theme 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac.

Judges in the category described the film as a 'slick, beautifully conceived and executed piece of work, with skilful design following throughout'.

F1 editor Mark Wilkin and the film's produced Richard Gort accepted the award.
