I had Ferrari F1 chance, says Hulkenberg

GP2 champion Nico Hulkenberg reveals that Ferrari were 'interested' in him earlier this year.
Nico Hulkenberg has confirmed that he was approached by Ferrari earlier this year and that it could have led to a drive with the Scuderia.

Hulkenberg, who will race for Williams in 2010, was one of a number of candidates considered by the Italian squad following Felipe Massa's horrific accident in Hungary and after Luca Badoer failed to shine on his return to the cock-pit.

Speaking to the SID news agency the 2009 GP2 champion added though that it was probably for the best that he didn't opt to make the switch to F1, especially given how Giancarlo Fisichella, who was drafted in to replace Badoer, also struggled with the Ferrari F60.

"There was certainly interest and enquiries," said the German, who was second fastest on Wednesday during F1 testing at Jerez.

"On one hand I was very eager to do it, but on the other hand it would have been two half-stories: GP2 and F1.

"In the end I was able to focus on GP2 and win the title and now I enter F1 with the appropriate preparation. It's probably good that it did not work out," he summed-up.
