Ecclestone: Renault will continue

Prodrive take-over set to save Renault F1 team - and keep the Regie in F1 in 2010 and beyond...

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has said that he is 'confident' Renault will remain in F1 next season.

Renault's future has been the subject of some debate for weeks now, and while various names have been linked to a take-over [see separate story click here], a deal with Prodrive now appears to be the most likely.

Indeed the The Times reckons that Renault is 'almost certain' to sell a controlling stake in its F1 operation to Prodrive boss, David Richards.

"We've got to get the whole Renault thing sorted out," Ecclestone told the 'paper. "We are in the middle of doing it now. I feel confident that we'll see Renault next year in F1 under the name Renault and the year after and the year after that."

Renault's executive committee met in Paris on Thursday to discuss the situation and it is now believed that an announcement will be made next week.

More to follow as and when it develops...
