Following on from confirmation that a meeting was recently held with Toyota Motorsport in Cologne, Stefan Grand Prix has announced that its S-01 car has “successfully [passed] crash tests”.
The tests were “done internally by independent outsourcing company” and “performed under strict FIA mandatory rule implementation... as [a] pre-test for confirmation of design and manufacturing of car.”
The team added that the car “will undergo full FIA tests as scheduled by the end of January 2010.”
The recent contact with Toyota - which Stefan GP declared would lead to “further cooperation” - suggests that the car under development is at least inspired by work undertaken by Toyota on its now redundant 2010 entry.
Stefan Grand Prix does not currently have a place on the 2010 F1 grid and appears to be hedging its bets on one of the successful new applicants dropping out.
