Button, Brawn secure New Year honours

Jenson Button given an MBE and Ross Brawn an OBE for F1 title glory during the 2009 season
Jenson Button has capped his title winning F1 season by receiving an MBE in the annual New Year's Honours list.

Button secured the honour for his stunning 2009 season, where Brawn GP rose from the ashes of the Honda team to secure both championship titles.

The Briton built his title challenge on six wins in the opening seven races of the year to follow countryman – and new team-mate at McLarenLewis Hamilton in lifting the title.

“This really is the crowning glory to what has been the most incredible year of my life,” Button told BBC Sport. “To be recognised by the Queen and the British people is a tremendous honour.

"Everybody at Brawn played their part. It was down to their expertise, dedication and hard work that we were able to achieve so much. We literally started with nothing, but had the belief, determination and passion to take on the world and succeed.

"Many people played a role in my world championship - and in receiving this award, I want to acknowledge and thank them for all their efforts."

Team boss Ross Brawn was also honoured for his part in the title success as he picked up an OBE.

Elsewhere, the chairman of the British Motorsport Association for the Disabled, David Butler, was also given an MBE for services to disability sport.

Nope, it's just you saying that I have no clue that a knighthood is higher than an OBE. That was patronising whether you are aware of it or not. Your chioce.
