Sutil: I wasn't aiming for a quick time

Adrian Sutil shows promise for Force India on final day of testing at Jerez and concludes day 'best of rest' after 2008 F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Force India F1's Adrian Sutil has insisted that he wasn't going for a top time on Saturday, even though he finished the final day at Jerez second quickest.

Sutil, who was third on the rain-affected third day, completed 84 tours in total and his best time was a 1 minute 20.180 seconds, half a second or so off Lewis Hamilton, who went fastest late on in his McLaren.

"In the end we did some really good runs, concentrating mainly on getting as much experience as we could with the new tyres. Set-up wise, we were pretty good already and the car balance is not so far away," Sutil noted.

"We also tried a couple of longer runs and saving the tyres seems to be the key point as we could set some quick times on the early laps but then the tyres dropped off towards the end of the runs. We weren't going for a time, just trying to get as much information as possible at this stage to feed back into the programme for next week."

In total the Force India F1 team managed more than 1200 kilometres this week and chief race engineer Dominic Harlow declared the maiden test with the VJM03 a good one.

"We completed the final day of the test with a greater mileage than the previous days despite some poor weather to begin with and a planned period of downtime, which is positive," he added.

"Overall our objectives today were completed, meaning some mechanical and bodywork test items and tyre comparisons. It's been a good first test with the VJM3 confirming the base characteristics of the car and the most prominent effects of the regulation changes for F1 2010."

Like most of the other teams, Force India will now resuming testing at Jerez on Wednesday, with reserve driver Paul di Resta scheduled to get his first run in the VJM03 on February 17 before Sutil and Vitantonio Liuzzi take over for the remaining days.

With all respect to DOMINIC HARLOW, but a planned period of downtime? As far as I know nobody planes for a period of downtime, downtime is something that is avoided at all costs, it all depends on how good out of the box the car is.
