Mark Webber: Over-confidence in F1 2010 'suicidal'

Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber is keeping tight lipped on his title prospects ahead of F1 2010.
Mark Webber has refused to comment on if he can win the title this year with Red Bull Racing, adding that it would be 'suicidal' to make such a prediction on the eve of the F1 2010 season.

His latest comments seemingly contradict those made last week, when he warned his rivals that the Milton Keynes based squad is 'in better shape than the other teams' and is also now 'one of the best if not the best teams in the pit-lane' [see separate story - click here].

Speaking to Italian newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport though, he was a lot more reserved about his prospects.

"Don't expect me to say I'll win the title this year, that would be suicidal," Webber told the 'paper. "I aim to win more grand's prix than I did last year. Let's say we have a great opportunity to do something special.

"Anyway, it's early to say. It will be a very close championship to the end, and it will be very spectacular, I guarantee."

Asked about the car though, Webber again noted that the Renault-powered RB6 is looking good, something that has been evident during winter testing.

"With limited fuel on board it is just super quick," he continued. "The tyres have gone a step backwards for lack of competition, the lap times have increased, but the aerodynamics are amazing."

Do you think Webber has what it takes to win the F1 2010 drivers' title?

For a bloke that does not seek the limelight Mark is certainly receiving some air time from Crash. I had a look at the heading and thence read the topic together with the second portion regarding the poll. The heading indicates a drama filled topic which it is not.I did consider myself a person well versed in the manner of grammer and meanings however found I required to find the dictionary of dust to understand the instrumental word of "internecine" which proves I am lacking. Upon determining the meaning I thence pondered on the sentence and wondered where is the basis behind the statement with this instrumental word and have come to the conclusion their is none. I did vote. :roll

I've mentioned it before that although Mark is a good race driver, I don't see him being Champ. But the let's give the guy a break, what he said is pretty logical, i.e. RBR is in pretty good shape, and he aims for more grand prix wins - which is a fair statement. But as he also mentioned, the running is going to be pretty tight, and will be exciting, right till then end. Given that as a prelude, it's gonna be an interesting season. Good luck Mr. Webber! :)
