Jacques Villeneuve will be in action in Bahrain, but not behind the wheel of an F1 car, having agreed a deal to join BBC Radio 5 Live's commentary team for the F1 2010 opener.

Villeneuve had hoped to secure a drive with Stefan GP this season, but that fell through when the Serbian outfit was denied a slot on the starting grid by the FIA, the sports governing body.

Villeneuve gets the call-up alongside regular BBC Radio 5 Live lead presenter, David Croft, as his usual partner, Anthony Davidson, is busy preparing for the 12 Hours of Sebring, the first round in the 2010 American Le Mans Series, which takes place next weekend (March 17-20).

It has yet to be confirmed if the ex-Williams and BAR-Honda man will make further appearances on BBC Radio 5 Live or if this is just a one-off for the 1997 F1 world champion.
