di Resta to get first 2010 Friday run in Melbourne

Paul di Resta will step inside the cockpit of Force India's Mercedes-powered VJM03 during Friday practice in both Australia and Malaysia, it has been revealed
Paul di Resta will not have to wait long before taking to the track again in Force India's VJM03, with the confirmation that the highly-rated young Scot will be given the wheel during Friday practice in both Australia and Malaysia.

di Resta secured the test and reserve role at the Silverstone-based squad off the back of an eye-catching performance during the special F1 young driver test at Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain in December – lapping right up at the sharp end of proceedings on each and every one of his three days inside the cockpit of Force India's Mercedes-powered contender.

Now, the 23-year-old cousin of former IndyCar series Champion and Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti is to be given the opportunity to impress F1 team bosses again during practice Down Under in Melbourne in just over a week's time, and around the Sepang International Circuit a week later still, Reuters reports.

di Resta will substitute Adrian Sutil in Australia and team-mate Vitantonio Liuzzi – who scored FIF1s first points of 2010 first time out in the Bahrain Grand Prix curtain-raiser last weekend courtesy of a gutsy ninth place – in Malaysia.

Force India is due to introduce a minor update to its front wing for round two in Melbourne.
