Woe for Spa as tunnel collapses

Hole appears in Blanchimont corner run-off after tunnel collapses.
A section of tunnel that runs underneath the Spa-Francorchamps circuit has collapsed, it has been reported.

The incident occurred on Sunday while a Club Subaru Belgium track day was taking place. No one was hurt. It is believed the tunnel collapsed as it had not been modified since being built back in 1978.

As a result of the collapse a hole has now appeared in the run-off area of the Blanchimont corner.

The damage will be assessed this week.

Spa is due to hold the Belgian Grand Prix, the 13th round in the F1 2010 season, on August 29.
