Silverstone to offer 'unbelievable opportunity'

OFFICIAL: Two lucky fans to get chance to watch the F1 2010 British Grand Prix from the pit wall.
Silverstone Circuits Limited and Formula One Management have announced details of an 'exceptional opportunity' that will bring fans closer to the F1 action than ever before.

The joint initiative will provide fans with unprecedented levels of access at this year's Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix, including money-can't-buy access to the Pit Wall during the F1 race on Sunday 11 July.

Anyone who has purchased two or more tickets for the 2010 British Grand Prix, prior to 12:00hrs on April 30 2010, will be automatically entered into a prize draw*.

In addition to being in with a chance of winning ticket upgrades to the exclusive F1 Paddock and Paddock Club Hospitality, two lucky individuals will join an F1 team on the Silverstone Pit Wall to experience first hand the electrifying race atmosphere.

The format for the prize draw will be as follows:

- 10 fans will have the chance to win a pair of passes to allow access to the F1 Paddock on Saturday 10 July.

- A further draw, among these 10, will allow five fans plus one guest each the chance to have
their tickets upgraded to Paddock Club Hospitality on Sunday 11 July.

- Of the five couples that would be entertained in Paddock Club Hospitality, two people will be balloted (these would not necessarily be from the same couple) to join an F1 team on the Silverstone Pit Wall during the F1 race. The selection of the team will be done by ballot.

"This is an unbelievable opportunity for two lucky fans to get closer than ever to the heart of F1," said Silverstone managing director, Richard Phillips. "Very few people, even amongst the teams, gain access to the Pit Wall during a race. It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. FOM have been extremely generous in making this opportunity available to fans purchasing tickets for the British Grand Prix."

Tickets for the 2010 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix can be booked 24 hours a day, seven days a week at www.silverstone.co.uk, or by calling 0844 3728 300.

* Prize draw open to anyone purchasing two or more race day or three-day general admission or grandstand tickets for the 2010 F1 British Grand Prix. Offer only applicable to tickets purchased via Silverstone Circuits Limited.

I can't think of anything worse than attending the British Grand Prix, prize or no prize. Watching testing and prequalifying in the good old days was fine, loads of thin layers on and a massive flask, and a totally unobstructed view. The lottery of raceday just doesn't bear thinking about though. If I want to be in close, uncomfortable proximity to a load of smelly strangers with no real purpose I'll catch a tube, its cheaper AND I won't get rained on.
