Michael Schumacher has used the eve of the Australian Grand Prix
to lend his support to Bridgestone and the FIA's 'Make Cars Green' campaign, while Renault
endorsed the governing body's 'Make Roads Safe' initiative at the same time.
Seven-time F1 world champion Schumacher helped underline Bridgestone's commitment to the FIA's 'Make Cars Green' programme at an event held in collaboration with the Australian Automobile Association at the RACV City Club in Melbourne today. Bridgestone is a strong supporter of the FIA's global initiative, which educates and encourages motorists to think green before they drive to reduce the impact of cars on the environment, and Schumacher used the tyre giant's media event to speak about some of the practical applications of 'Make Cars Green'.
“We are delighted to have had Michael with us in Melbourne today to help promote the 'Make Cars Green' programme,” Bridgestone Australia Ltd senior executive director Andrew Moffatt commented, “Evidence of our global support of the 'Make Cars Green' programme can be seen on our Bridgestone Potenza F1 tyres, every one of which has a bright green band to symbolise our support.
“Here in Australia, we recently launched Bridgestone Ecopia which utilises our low-rolling resistance tyre technology to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This product has been an important milestone in our ongoing campaign to educate Australian motorists about the important role tyres play in the impact their vehicle has on the environment.
“Driving on tyres with air pressure at just 50kPA lower than it should be decreases fuel efficiency by two per cent in urban areas and four per cent in suburban driving. Additionally, a correctly inflated tyre increases the grip on the road and is therefore not only a greener but also a safer tyre.”
team, meanwhile, announced its full endorsement of the FIA's 'Make Roads Safe' campaign, part of the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety that aims to save five million lives worldwide over the next decade.
In addition to carrying branding on the mainplane of the front wing, the team's R30 will feature the 'Make Roads Safe' logo and web address below the sidepods, while, from this weekend on, the campaign will be incorporated into Renault
F1's promotional activities with Renault
subsidiaries around the world in order to raise
awareness of road safety issues in individual countries.
The 'Make Roads Safe' campaign is aligned with Renault's corporate commitment to global road safety. Last November, during the conference at which the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety was announced, Renault
reaffirmed its commitment to the Global Road Safety Initiative, a collaboration between seven major automotive groups - including the French marque - that finances and promotes road safety initiatives in China, Brazil and the ASEAN region.
