Hulkenberg tests hybrid 911 at the 'Ring

Nico Hulkenberg tests new Hybrid Porsche at the Nurburgring
Williams driver Nico Hulkenberg has been given the honour of testing the new Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid that will compete in the Nurburgring 24 Hours next month.

The German driver tested the car on the famed Nordschleife ahead of the third round of the VLN season and admitted he was hugely impressed by the machine, which features two electric motors at the front to supplement the four litre engine found in the rear of the car.

An electrical flywheel power generator, designed and manufactured by Williams Hybrid Power, is fitted in the cockpit beside the driver and delivers energy to the electric motors. Compared to a battery, the flywheel generator has the
advantage of storing and delivering high amounts of energy considerably quicker.

"Great car, fascinating technology and an incomparable track," Hulkenberg said. "This test was great fun. I'm impressed with how well the hybrid system works in the Porsche.

"This circuit is unique - you can't compare it to any other track in the world. This is certainly not the last time I'll drive here. Surprisingly, in the slow corners, the 911 is not far off a Formula 1 car. The mechanical grip is impressive."
