Gary Paffett insists he is still dreaming of making a move into F1 in future, despite being overlooked on numerous occasions for a race seat.

The Briton has been with McLaren for some five years as a test driver but has never been able to secure a slot on the actual grid, with Pedro de la Rosa and Lewis Hamilton both filling vacancies that Paffett was linked with in recent years.

Paffett has continued his racing career in the DTM with Mercedes but insisted that his dream remains to join the likes of Hamilton and Jenson Button on the F1 grid in the coming years.

"It's difficult to say," he was quoted as telling Motor Racing Magazine by ESPN. "There is no recipe on how to get a F1 drive. You have seen that young drivers and old drivers have the same opportunities.

"You have to take the chance when it comes. I am doing that at the moment: I'm waiting for the opportunity. But I enjoy my work. I've been here for five years and am very involved with the team's efforts."
