Villeneuve set to give up on F1 return plan?

Jacques Villeneuve: There comes a point where you've been out for too long and the teams just won't give you a chance [to return].
Jacques Villeneuve has confirmed that if he doesn't secure a place on the F1 2011 grid then he will give up on his bid to return to the pinnacle of the sport.

Villeneuve, who won the F1 drivers' title in 1997 with Williams, last raced in F1 back in 2006, before he was dropped by the BMW Sauber team.

The Canadian had been linked to a number of teams last season, most noticeably Stefan GP, before the Serbian-based squad was denied an entry by the FIA.

"I'm quite happy right now being busy raising kids," Villeneuve told espn.co.uk prior to this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. "I would obviously be happier behind a wheel. Once you've been a racer, I think you're a racer all your life.

"I worked hard on [trying to return to F1 for] 2010. I'm giving myself until 2011. There's still a few months [left to do a deal]."

Despite still hoping for another shot though, Villeneuve conceded it won't be easy for him to get a drive.

"The teams don't want to take a risk," he added. "There comes a point where you've been out for too long and the teams just won't give you a chance [to return]."
