Chandhok targets Force India seat

Karun Chandhok eyes up the possibility of moving to Force India at some point in the future
Karun Chandhok has set his sights on securing a race seat with Force India in a move which he feels while increase the number of Indian companies getting involved in the sport.

Chandhok became the second Indian to join the F1 grid โ€“ after Narain Karthikeyan โ€“ when he joined Hispania Racing this season, although an uncompetitive car has left him to battle towards the rear of the field with the newcomers.

With India set to host an F1 race for the first time this year, Chandhok revealed that he would love the chance to race for the team owned by Indian businessman Vijay Mallya, arguing that it would make huge commercial sense for the Silverstone-based squad going forwards.

"I'd love to drive for Force India at some point in my career, whether it happens next year or not, because I think in some ways I'm an ambassador for the sport in our country," Chandhok was quoted by the ITV-F1.com website. "A lot of what happens to the sport in that part of the world depends on us a little bit, and I think if you have an Indian driver in an Indian car at the Indian Grand Prix, it's a no-brainer in terms of ticket sales.

"I've been chasing [Indian] sponsors for years in GP2 and Formula 3 and stuff, so I know a little bit about what's out there in the market, and there are people who want to get involved but are sitting on the fence.

"If we were all under the same roof, Vijay's team would win big-time commercially. It could be a win for me because it would be potentially a better car."

However, Chandhok didn't rule out the possibility of remaining with Hispania Racing beyond the current season, with the team set to reveal plans in the near future on how it will approach the 2011 campaign following its split with Dallara.

"If these guys carry out the plans which the [team owners] Carabantes have talked to me about, they can be a very competitive team in the future,โ€ he said. "So far they seem happy with what I'm doing. Jose Ramon is very keen to try to do something for next year as well."

I have huge respect for Karun, but it appears to be a no brainer he wont end up at Force India...not because he isnt fast enough, but merely due to Vijay stating recently that he isnt interested in Karun...

    Realisticly Karun, aim for Williams...Sauber....
