Sauber's Kamui Koabayshi was the big name that failed to make it through Q1 today in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Kobayashi joined the six expected victims from the new teams in bowing out after the opening 20-minute session. Indeed it looked like he might finish behind Heikki Kovalainen's Lotus, only to jump ahead of the Finn in the dying seconds.
Lotus as normal headed the new teams, followed by Timo Glock's Virgin and then Hispania's Bruno Senna. Lucas di Grassi and Karun Chandhok brought up the rear in 23rd and 24th respectively.
At the top of the timesheets, Lewis Hamilton was the only man to break the 1 minute 16 second barrier, his best a 1m 15.889s. Sebastian Vettel was three tenths slower followed by Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Robert Kubica and Jenson Button in positions 3 through to 6.
Mark Webber, Adrian Sutil, Vitaly Petrov and Michael Schumacher completed the Q1 top ten.
More to follow after Q2...
