Mark Webber was fastest Friday in practice for this weekend's F1 2010 British Grand Prix at the revised Silverstone.

Webber went quickest in the second session around 30 minutes in, on a 1 minute 31.973 seconds, before improving to a 1m 31.957s and then a 1m 31.234s, that latter lap enough to ensure he finished the opening day at the head of the times.

FP2 wasn't without its difficulties for the Australian though, and he suffered an electrical problem near the end that kept him confined to the pits for the final 15 minutes. The team however, insisted it wasn't anything 'major'.

Team-mate Sebastian Vettel also went well in the sister car and he ended the second session third, 0.641 seconds slower than Webber. Vettel had been quickest this morning in first practice.

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso was 'best of the rest', and second in his Ferrari, a big improvement, as he had been outside the top ten in FP1 and over 2 seconds off the pace. Alonso's best effort was a 1m 31.626s, which left him 0.392 seconds off P1. Felipe Massa came in fourth in the other Ferrari F10, although unlike Alonso he couldn't get into the 1 minute 31 second bracket. He finished the day on a 1m 32.099s.

Mercedes GP men, Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher were fifth and sixth, with Renault number two driver and F1 2010 rookie, Vitaly Petrov seventh, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton was actually slower in the second session, and so while he was only P8 in FP2, he ended the day sixth on the combined times, sandwiched between Rosberg and Schumacher.

Robert Kubica was the only other runner that failed to improve in FP2, and as a result he was only 11th, behind Adrian Sutil and Rubens Barrichello. Like Hamilton though, his FP1 time hauled him up the order and put him in just in front of his team-mate.

Outside the top ten, Nico Hulkenberg was eleventh and reigning F1 world champion Jenson Button was a lowly twelfth. Button's best was a 1m 33.200s, which was almost two seconds off the pace.

Kamui Kobayashi and Vitantonio Liuzzi rounded out the top 15, followed by Sebastien Buemi, Pedro de la Rosa, Jaime Alguersuari and Heikki Kovalainen. Kovalainen was the top 'new team' man, although he stopped out on track near the end at Stowe due to power steering problems.

Virgin's Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock came in 20th and 21st, followed by Hispania's Karun Chandhok and Sakon Yamamoto and Jarno Trulli's Lotus. Trulli only did three laps due to a technical issue.
