Felipe Massa has admitted that his hopes of clinching the drivers' crown in F1 2010 are now 'compromised' following a failure to trouble the scorers for the third race in succession in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone - as the Brazilian rued the 'bad luck that is following [him] around'.

Having qualified seventh - more than seven tenths of a second shy of Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso - Massa's race was effectively ruined at the start when the Spaniard made a tardy getaway and the pair came into contact with one another, leaving the Paulista with a damaged front wing and a puncture, necessitating a slow return to the pits for a new tyre and seeing him slip to virtually plum last.

From there, the 2008 F1 World Championship runner-up endured a scrappy race around a circuit at which he has rarely shone, catching the field back up again and benefitting from the safety car appearance, only to run off-track shortly after passing the two Lotus' and having to pit again late on for another punctured tyre, winding up a distant 15th at the close - meaning the early-season world championship leader has now slumped a full 78 points adrift of the top of the table with ten races remaining.

"I don't know what to do, but I have to find some way of getting rid of the bad luck that is following me around!" lamented the eleven-time grand prix-winner. "In the last few races, everything has happened to me. Here my race was soon over, when I touched with Fernando and got a puncture which dropped me to the back of the pack. The car was going well, but that's not much use if you cannot get a result.

"The championship is not over after this race, but clearly my situation is compromised - I would need to win a lot of races while others run into the same difficulties that have come my way in recent races. However, we must not give up; we will keep our heads high and continue to push on the development of the car, and then see what results come our way."
