F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is hoping bolster the draw of the Singapore Grand Prix by adding the Australian V8 Supercars Series to the support line-up.
Martin Whitaker, the new chief executive officer of the Australian tin-top series, and formerly the managing director of the Bahrain International Circuit, told V8X
Magazine that it is definitely a possibility for 2011, although it would probably be a non-championship round.
“They want us to go there,” Whitaker said. “He [Ecclestone] would love to have us there in an earlier timeslot.
“It's better for the spectators, better for the city and puts an extra four hours on to the show as far as Singapore is concerned.”
“[Also] what's really interesting is they want more expertise in running the entertainment element that goes hand-in-hand with a street race,” Whitaker added. “It's everything that goes with it; it's the street party culture that brings the city alive for the duration of the race meeting.”
