Korea plans curtain-raiser 50 days before grand prix

Korean GP organiser KAVO has confirmed plans for a dress rehearsal event at the new Korea International Circuit this coming weekend.
The promoters of the inaugural Korean Grand Prix have taken another step towards confirming that the event will take place by revealing that a curtain-raiser will give the new circuit at Yeongam a work-out more than a month ahead of the F1 circus arriving.

With doubt continuing to surround the grand prix, despite assertions from designer Hermann Tilke that things were progressing nicely, Korea Auto Valley Operation has announced that the Korea International Circuit will stage its inaugural event over the weekend of 4-5 September, as the finishing touches are put to the country's first ever international motorsport facility, which KAVO reports is 90 per cent complete.

'Circuit Run 2010' will mark the 50-day countdown to the country's first-ever F1 event, as work continues to ensure the facility's readiness for the October date, but will also include an F1 element as current world championship leader Red Bull Racing gives the under-used Karun Chandhok the chance to drive one of its show cars see story here]. A variety of car and motorcycle performances, parades and shows, including a concert organised by M.net, will accompany the Indian's outing.

Despite rumours persisting that there is not yet any tarmac for the Red Bull demonstration to run on - and the latest images not exactly confirming otherwise - F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has insisted that the race will go ahead and that there were no plans to replace it on the schedule.

"I would put money on it," he said in Belgium, "It is still on the calendar and they will get it done somehow."
