Bruno Senna is to team up with close friend and fellow Brazilian, Lucas di Grassi, to compete in the TriStar 111 Monaco triathlon this weekend.

Senna is committed to cycling as a key part of his training and will take the 100km ride as his part in the relay, with Virgin Racing rival Di Grassi taking on a 1km swim and 10km run.

The pair will be joined by other sports stars, including fellow F1 racer Jenson Button and pole vault world record holder Sergei Bubka, as well as the 660 individual competitors and 40 relay teams.

"For me and Lucas, this will be fun and a challenge; our team is called Ribs Fat, which is a combination of our nicknames for each other (Bruno has broken virtually every rib in his body go-karting, and 'grasso' is Italian for 'fat')," Senna said.

"We are not competing to win the event but it will help our fitness training routines; I'm used to cycling, and am really in to the sport, but even for me 100km in the hills is a long way and I'll be happy if I come through with a good time and all my bones in tact!"
