Ferrari's Fernando Alonso comes through to take an emotional win at the Italian Grand Prix today, even though he lost the lead at the start.
Alonso trailed Jenson Button for the first half of the race and despite being right on the tail of the Englishman he was unable to find a way past. However the Spaniard got the jump on the McLaren when they stopped for tyres and he emerged just in front to take P1 and eventually finish 2.9 seconds ahead.
Button thus had to settle for the runners-up spot, while Felipe Massa was third to give the tifosi
further reason to cheer.
Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel was next up and fourth, despite losing time mid-race with a suspected engine glitch, just ahead of Nico Rosberg's Mercedes and his team-mate Mark Webber.
Nico Hulkenberg took seventh in his Williams and Renault number one Robert Kubica was eighth. Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello completed the points' scorers in ninth and tenth.
