Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn insists that the team isn't designing its 2011 F1 car specifically for Michael Schumacher.

The seven-time title winner has struggled to match his previous form on his return to the grid this season, although that has been down in no small part to the fact that the German has struggled to get to grips with both the W01 and the Bridgestone tyres.

Design of the W01 started when the team believed that Jenson Button was likely to be at the wheel of the car, with talk that the 2011 car would now be designed around Schumacher to give the former Ferrari man the best possible chance of fighting for an eighth crown next year.

However, speaking to the SID news agency, Brawn denied that that is the case.

"We are not building a car around Michael," he said. "We just want to develop a good car. There is no special characteristic."

Schumacher sits ninth in the championship following the final European race of the season at Monza.
