Kimi Raikkonen's manager Steve Robertson has confirmed that he has made contact with Renault about a drive for the Finn in F1 next season.
Reports earlier this week suggested that Raikkonen had been in touch with Renault team boss Eric Boullier following the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa about the possibility of making a return to the sport next season, having switched to the WRC with Citroen for 2010.
Robertson, who co-owns the Raikkonen Robertson F3 team with the 2007 F1 title winner, has now confirmed the approach but insisted that it was merely a case of exploring the opportunities available for the new season.
"It's true, I spoke with Boullier," he told Turun Sanomat
. "We want to explore all the possible options for next year. Kimi and I asked Renault what is the situation.
"There are all sorts of rumours. I've even heard that Kimi could go to NASCAR, but that is definitely not an option."
Raikkonen could yet elect to stay in the WRC, with a number of teams interested in his services as well as current employers Citroen.
