Alonso: Ferrari can be consistently strong everywhere

As he approaches a race in which he has never failed to make the podium, Ferrari star Fernando Alonso insists keeping that run of success going in Singapore this weekend could well be pivotal to his F1 2010 title challenge
Double world champion Fernando Alonso has asserted that he is confident Ferrari will be consistently competitive at each of the five remaining grands prix of the F1 2010 campaign – though he concedes that if for whatever reason he misses the podium once or twice between now and season's end, the title 'will become complicated'.

Alonso arrives in Singapore for F1's third-ever night race sitting in third spot in the standings off the back of his Italian Grand Prix victory at Monza last time out, 21 points adrift of world championship leader Mark Webber – though the Scuderia's challenge might be stymied somewhat by the fact that season-long pace-setters Red Bull Racing are tipped to shine in all five of the races to come.

The Spaniard, however, insists that with a significant aerodynamic upgrade to the floor of the F10, Ferrari will similarly show few weaknesses on the performance front – though with the five crown-chasing contenders separated by so few points as the tension mounts, he acknowledges that just one failure to finish or score could spell disaster.

“We now have a package that should work on all types of circuit,” the Oviedo native told German publication Auto Motor und Sport. “We know Red Bull will be very strong at the next two circuits, but we should now be more consistent than we were before. Consistency is the key to this title.”

“If in even one or two races we are not on the podium, it will become complicated,” he added, in an interview with Spanish daily newspaper Marca. “We are moving in a circle of five drivers and all are evenly-matched. We are focussed on doing our job, and we'll see if it's enough at the end of the season. Each F1 team will try to give 100 per cent with both their drivers for the common good of the team. Felipe [Massa – team-mate] and I are going to give 100 per cent, and it will be the same at McLaren and Red Bull.”

Alonso has a superb – if controversial – record in Singapore, having triumphed there for Renault in 2008, in what was later exposed as a race-fixing sham engineered by his team principal Flavio Briatore, executive director of engineering Pat Symonds and team-mate Nelsinho Piquet. The 29-year-old similarly ascended the podium this time twelve months ago, with a strong if somewhat fortuitous run to third place. He is hoping Lady Luck will continue to shine on him in this year's event under the spotlights of the Far-Eastern city-state, what he describes as 'a very important weekend'.

“In the last two races here, we have never had to run in the rain and the forecast for the coming weekend is not particularly encouraging,” he mused in his blog for Ferrari's website, revealing that he was welcomed on his arrival in Singapore by 'an impressive storm'. “There will therefore be another unknown factor in a grand prix that is already uncertain by its very nature.

“I very much enjoy the atmosphere at this race, and racing at night is a really good idea. The unusual timing has never caused me any problems – I opted to arrive as late as possible, because for the next few days we will continue to live on European time, going to bed in the early hours of the morning and having breakfast at the start of the afternoon. For the past two years that method has worked perfectly, with some small secret little tricks, so there is no reason for me to change anything in my approach.

“From the experience of the first two races here, the track would seem pretty well-suited to my driving style and indeed, having finished on the podium in both those races means I feel fairly confident. I am well aware that another top three finish is very important for the classification and I am convinced that, if we do everything perfectly, we can achieve that. We proved it at Monza, and everything is in-place for us to repeat that feat here in Singapore.

if ferrari can be strong at a circuit like singapore after the performance at monza, there WILL be a whole load of crying, whinging, dummies and toys getting thrown out of prams, alonso though wont be responsible for any tantrums, whoever (if anyone) beats fernando will possibly be champion, and a deserving champion too.

Hi Pony Chops and others you guys are never going to stop the propaganda? By repeating a lie will not become true. We all know that Alonso did not behave in the best way at MClaren, but it is also very true that the team only supported LH from the first third of he championship beause for commercial reasons it was the best choice. Dennis "racing alonso" , FA car hal a sec slower in brasil, etc etc are more than enought hints. So please guys lets be fair and stop the **** about blaming FA for Mclaren disaster in 2007, it was also Ron's fault and team's fault. LH is the only one not to blame. And dont forget LH daddy going to Charlie in Hungary and getting a penalty for FA of 5 places in the grid which at the end of the year ment MClaren loosing both championships by 1 point.
