Kumho expresses F1 interest

Kumho Tires interested in F1 involvement
Kumho Tires has expressed an interest in making the move into F1 in future, with reports that the Korean manufacturer wrote a letter of intent to the FIA when it became known that Bridgestone was to leave the sport.

While Pirelli ultimately won the tender to supply tyres to F1 from 2011-13, Kumho is interested in making the move into F1 in the long-term having shown its ability in junior formulae.

The F3 Euroseries is amongst the series to currently use Kumho tyres.

“As we are a relative newcomer with the shortest history among the global top ten tyre makers, we need to compete in the global market with our technical power, and motor sports is the area where we can show off our capabilities,” Kumho Tires chief executive Jong-Ho Kim Tyres and Accessories magazine.

“We already completed the development of F1 tyres in 2007 and now watch for an opportunity to enter into the F1 market as well.”
