Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel was fastest Friday in practice for this weekend's F1 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.
Vettel went quickest with about twenty minutes to go, his best lap a 1 minute 11.968 seconds, which put him just over a tenth of a second up on his team-mate, Mark Webber. Vettel was the only man to break the 1m 12s barrier.
Fernando Alonso meanwhile came in third for the Scuderia, two tenths further adrift, on a 1m 12.328s. Felipe Massa also posted a good time and was fifth in the sister Ferrari F10, even though he missed the final half hour of the session due to a hydraulic problem. Ironically he stopped on the approach to turn 4 - the same place his team-mate had to park it, when his engine cried enough in FP1.
Lewis Hamilton was sandwiched between the two Ferrari's in fourth, fractionally ahead of Massa, while Renault's Robert Kubica came in sixth, the last runner to set a time in the 1m 12s bracket.
Jenson Button finished up seventh and 1.2 seconds off the pace, with Sauber's Nick Heidfeld and the Mercedes GP cars of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher ninth and tenth. Schumacher had a little incident at the end of the session when he had a coming together with Jaime Alguersuari a turn 1. Alguersuari, who concluded FP2 in 18th, also then spun at turn 4. Not a great end to the day for the Spaniard.
Between Schumacher in P10 and Alguersuari in P18, Rubens Barrichello led the Williams charge in eleventh, ahead of Kamui Kobayahi's Sauber and his team-mate, Nico Hulkenberg. Adrian Sutil, Vitaly Petrov, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Sebastien Buemi filled positions 14 through to 17.
At the back, Jarno Trulli was the top 'new team' man in his Lotus again and only four tenths off Alguersuari. Heikki Kovalainen came in 20th in the other Lotus, followed by Lucas di Grassi's Virgin and then the Hispania's of Bruno Senna and Christian Klien. Timo Glock was slowest. He did 35 tours, but was unable to improve on his time from FP1. In fact, he was actually slower.
