Pirelli pleased with Ricard test

Pirelli completes its European testing with two days of running at Paul Ricard
Pirelli has declared itself pleased with its latest F1 tyre test after completing two days of wet running at Paul Ricard.

On an artificially watered circuit, Pedro de la Rosa completed more than 800 kilometres of running at the wheel of a 2009-spec Toyota, with the Spaniard using the test to put more miles on both the extreme wet and intermediate tyres.

Following the test, the tyre supplier has now finalised the design of its rain tyres while progress has also been made on the definition of the compounds that will be used in 2011.

F1 teams will now get the chance to sample the Pirelli dry tyres for the first time during testing in Abu Dhabi next week, with the medium and soft compound tyres being made available.

"We're very pleased with the outcome of this wet test session,” Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery said. “The sprinkler facilities at Paul Ricard allowed us to carry out all the work that we intended in consistent conditions and maximise our time there to the best effect.

“With our European campaign over we now head to Abu Dhabi, which will be the first indicator of where we are really at. It's still a big step into the unknown but we believe that we have a solid foundation of products now with which to make more progress - after less than three months of running to date."
